2 THE SCOURGING AT THE PILLAR
Meditation texts

« Our Father, who art in even... »

53 They led Jesus away to the high priest; and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes gathered together. 54 Peter had followed Him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest; and he was sitting with the officers and warming himself at the fire. 55 Now the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin Council kept trying to obtain testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, and they were not finding any.

Mark{14:53-55}

63 But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest said to Him, "I adjure You by the living God, that You tell us whether You are the Christ, the Son of God." 64 Jesus said to him, "You have said it yourself; nevertheless I tell you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven."

« Hail, Marie, full of grace... »

Matthew{26:63-64}

65 Then the high priest tore his robes and said, "He has blasphemed! What further need do we have of witnesses Behold, you have now heard the blasphemy; 66 what do you think?" They answered, "He deserves death!"

« Hail, Marie, full of grace... »

Matthew{26:65-66}

67 Then they spat in His face and beat Him with their fists; and others slapped Him, 64 and they blindfolded Him and were asking Him, saying, "Prophesy, who is the one who hit You?" 65 And they were saying many other things against Him, blaspheming.

« Hail, Marie, full of grace... »

Matthew{26:67}Luke{22:64-65}

73 A little later the bystanders came up and said to Peter, "Surely you too are one of them; for even the way you talk gives you away." 74 Then he began to curse and swear, "I do not know the man!" And immediately a rooster crowed. 75 And Peter remembered the word which Jesus had said, "Before a rooster crows, you will deny Me three times." And he went out and wept bitterly.

« Hail, Marie, full of grace... »

Matthew{26:73-75}

1 Now when morning came, 2 they bound Him, and led Him away and delivered Him to Pilate the governor. 29 Therefore Pilate went out to them and said, "What accusation do you bring against this Man?" 30 They answered and said to him, "If this Man were not an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him to you."

« Hail, Marie, full of grace... »

Matthew{27:1-2}John{18:29-30}

And they began to accuse Him, saying, "We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, and saying that He Himself is Christ, a King." 31 So Pilate said to them, "Take Him yourselves, and judge Him according to your law." The Jews said to him, "We are not permitted to put anyone to death,"

Luke{23:2}John{18:31}

33 Therefore Pilate entered again into the Praetorium, and summoned Jesus and said to Him, "Are You the King of the Jews?" 36 Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not from here of this realm."

« Hail, Marie, full of grace... »

John{18:33-36}

37 Therefore Pilate said to Him, "So You are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."

« Hail, Marie, full of grace... »

John{18:37}

38 Pilate said to Him, "What is truth?" And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews and said to them, "I find no guilt in Him. 39 But you have a custom that I release someone for you at the Passover; do you wish then that I release for you the King of the Jews?" 40 So they cried out again, saying, "Not this Man, but Barabbas." Now Barabbas was a robber. 1 Pilate then took Jesus and scourged Him.

« Hail, Marie, full of grace... »

John{18:38-40}{19:1}

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.
